“Dr. Drive Refuel-Continuable SS” deplyoed at 600 Locations Throughout Japan

August 28, 2008

PRESS RELEASE

Nippon Oil Corporation (President: Shinji Nishio) is pleased to announce that the number of “Dr. Drive* Refuel-Continuable” service stations (hereinafter “SS”) equipped with “emergency generator” and “emergency portable pump”, which we have been introducing since 2006 to enable continuous refueling at the time of power failures due to earthquakes, has reached at approximately 600 SSs throughout Japan as of 1 September, 2009.

We further plan to increase the number of this refuel-continuable SS to approximately 750 SSs at the end of December 2008, and to install the emergency equipments at neighboring tank terminals so that we can continue refueling at approximately 1,450 remaining Dr. Drive SSs by bringing in such equipements to SSs at the time of earthquakes.

We consider petroleum-supply as a “lifeline”, same as tap water, electricity, gas and telephones. At the time of earthquakes, unless we can immediately refuel emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire engines and Self-Defense Forces vehicles, many human lives will be placed in jeopardy. In cold areas, kerosene will also play an important role in the lives of evacuees.
With the deployment of “Dr. Drive Refuel-Continuable SS”, we aim to establish an infrastructure which can conduct supporting activities as far as possible and can contribute to local areas.

We shall also introduce a “Let’s think with a family. Disaster-Prevention quiz” on our website from Saturday, August 30. We planned this quiz to encourage family members to discuss how to prevent disasters through answering the quiz. We shall present 3,000 respondents with Enegori-kun disaster-prevention bags and hope the participation of many people to the quiz.

* What is Dr. Drive?
Our unique service stations (SS) aim not only to refuel gasoline and diesel oil but also to sell an extensive range of automobile-related productsand services. Under the concept of “Supporting safe and refreshing drive as the family doctor for our customer’s cars”, we are developing SSs at which mechanics with national qualification and “master of car-wash” who completed our service training will offer customers high quality products and services, not only petroleum, car wash and tire-replacement services but also daily-checks and car safety inspections.
