Liquid Crystal Polymer Design Technology

XYDAR® LCP (liquid crystal polymer) is a high-performance engineering plastic that shows outstanding heat resistance, precision moldability, dimensional stability, and mechanical properties. With features like these, it's no wonder that LCPs are commonly used to make electronic components, such as connectors and camera modules for smartphones. We are developing special new grades for connectors with even better precision molding properties, and grades for camera modules that show improved adhesion and produce less dust.
And thanks to their low dissipation factors, LCPs also help to ensure lower signal loss in high speed transmission applications compared to glass/epoxy composites. We developed a new LCP resin with a dissipation factor of only 0.0007 (@ 10 GHz), which is just 1/3 that of conventional LCPs. With 5G mobile networks and next-generation vehicles set to take off in the coming decade, this new LCP resin is expected to find application in flexible printed circuit boards and substrates for millimeter-wave radar systems.
