Marifu Refinery

The Westernmost Petroleum Product Supply Site in Honshu, with 80 Years of History Supplying the Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Hokuriku Regions

The Marifu Refinery is located at the far eastern edge of Yamaguchi Prefecture, in the serene town of Waki on the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. This historical refinery began operations in 1943.
It is a typical cracking refinery, and roughly 90% of its petroleum product output is light petroleum oil. One of its distinctive features is its petroleum coke production equipment, which is not found in typical refineries. The quality of the needle coke it makes for use in electric furnace electrodes is among the finest in the world, and it has over a 50% global market share for the highest grade of needle coke, which is used in large graphite electrodes.

Message from the Refinery Manager

Greetings from the ENEOS Marifu Refinery.

Our refinery is a historical one, beginning operations in 1943. Every month, we produce roughly 600,000 kiloliters of petroleum products (gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, fuel oil, LP gas, and the like).

The Marifu Refinery has exceptional cracking capabilities, which we use to crack and refine fuel oil and supply high-value-added products. We turn roughly 90% of crude oil into light petroleum oil products (gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, etc.).

Furthermore, in addition to general petroleum products, we also use residual oil to produce petroleum coke. Our needle coke, in particular, boasts the highest level of quality in the world and is used as raw material for electric furnace electrodes. We command over 50% of the global market share for the highest grade of needle coke. It is also used in capacitors and as negative electrode material in lithium ion batteries.

In our operations, we make safe, steady operation our highest priority. We will continue to do our utmost to be a trusted partner by providing a steady supply of energy. The Marifu Refinery looks forward to your continued support into the future.
