Promotion of Understanding for Sexual Minorities

1. Initiatives for Creating Healthy Work Environments for Everyone, Irrespective of Their Sexual Orientation or Gender Expreession

We conduct ongoing in-house training, e-learning, and other initiatives aimed at fostering a greater understanding of sexual minorities in order to create healthy work environments for everyone, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender expression.
In April 2019, we added "same sex partner (a person who is the same sex as an employee and whose relationship with the employee is, for all intents and purposes, equivalent to marriages)" to our definition of "spouse" in our human resource system.
Furthermore, for five consecutive years, starting in fiscal 2020, ENEOS has received the highest rating of "Gold" in the PRIDE Index, created by work with Pride. The PRIDE Index is an evaluation index for initiatives related to sexual minorities, such as members of the LGBTQ community. ENEOS was highly evaluated for its ENEOS Group Code of Conduct, ENEOS Basic Personnel Policy, and initiatives such as awareness-raising activities conducted during various training activities.

2. Examples of Initiatives

(1) Conducting training for all employees

We conduct training and e-learning for all employees on an ongoing basis to foster greater understanding of sexual minorities.

  • Methods for dealing with unconscious bias
  • Preventing SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) harassment and outing
  • Seminar on listening to and gaining a deeper understanding of sexual minorities

(2) Conducting training for officers

We conduct diversity management training for officers at section chief level and above. In fiscal 2022, we used video lectures by outside instructors and online seminars to perform the following training.

  • Management results with respect to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Unconscious bias and ensuring psychological safety within the organization
  • Managing diverse people (methods for managing employees balancing work and childcare or nursing care, methods for managing minority employees)

From fiscal 2023 onward, we have been holding seminars featuring external guest speakers who are sexual minorities. Each of these seminars have been watched in real-time by over 200 employees, who have learned about the experiences of the guest speakers and the environment around sexual minorities.

FY2024 seminar

(3) Creation and publication of Workplace Support Guidebook for Issues Related to Sexual Minorities

Our workplaces include sexual minority individuals, so we created a guidebook containing information regarding workplace communications that ensure that everyone can enjoy peace of mind in their work, and we published this guidebook on our intranet. The guidebook contains basic information about sexual orientation and gender expression, language and behavior requiring special care, important information about what to do if someone comes out to you, etc.

(4) Establishment of an internal consultation point for sexual minority issues

We established an internal consultation point where all employees, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can consult regarding sexual minority-related issues. Consultation is performed by personnel who have received special training from outside instructors.

(5) ENEOS ALLY initiatives

ENEOS ALLY logo

As part of our efforts to create workplaces in which sexual minority employees can work with peace of mind, we launched our ENEOS ALLY initiatives in FY2022. Anyone who supports the values of sexual minorities and wishes to aid in their activities can declare themselves an ALLY. There is data that shows that when someone declares themself an ally to those around them, they provide people who are sexual minorities with a stronger sense of psychological safety. To provide visibility to allies, we have created goods with ENEOS ALLY logos and made them available to anyone who requests them.

We created this unique logo so that sexual minority employees can see that there are ENEOS ALLIES around them and be their authentic self, working confidently.
