Only Refinery in the Tohoku Region; Supplier of Petroleum Products, Petrochemical Products, and Electric Power
The Sendai Refinery started operations in July 1971 with hopes that it would contribute to the economic development of the region. As the only refinery in the Tohoku region, it currently plays a central role in providing a stable energy supply in the region through the production of various high-quality petroleum products.
After the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, it was forced to cease operations temporarily due flooding across the entire site. However, after efforts to restore production, it was able to restart operations in March 2012 and has continued to this day.
Message from the Refinery Manager
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your continued understanding and support for the operations of the Sendai Refinery.
Since commencing operations in July 1971, the Sendai Refinery has fulfilled its mission as the sole refinery in the Tohoku region, fulfilling our crucial role of stable supply of petroleum products.
In the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake, we were forced to suspend operations. However, with the support of local communities and many others, we were able to resume operations. This experience has become the foundation of our efforts today.
Based on the lessons we learned, we are strengthening our facilities and organizational systems while ensuring that safety and compliance remain our highest priorities.
Under our refinery vision, "Supporting the future of energy from Tohoku region through safe, secure, and stable operations," we are committed to contributing to the industries and daily lives of the Tohoku region through a stable energy supply, while also as a reliable member of the local community.
We will continue to make an earnest effort to build strong ties with the community through social contribution activities rooted in the region and strive to remain a refinery that is trusted by all.
